Why good habits will make you productive.

I wish there was a magic silver bullet to being productive. That one thing that you could which would have everything fall into place for you. Well that magic silver bullet doesn’t exist. The truth being productive takes work.

You become productive by developing goods habits and that takes work.

Think of productivity as a muscle that need to be worked in order to get stronger. How many fad diets have you tried and failed on. How many shortcuts in life have turned out to be dangerous. Take this pill to help you lose weight then you find out that pill does damage to your body.

You won’t remember to make that phone call unless you write it down. You won’t  remember to follow up on that proposal unless you write it down

It’s the habit of writing that stuff down that makes you productive. Your to do list doesn’t  get populated by itself. it needs you to take action and do it.

Do things in a certain way every time. Tweak it as needed but make an effort to be consistent.

  • Check your email and have your productivity app open.
  • Enter your next actions as you read your email.
  • When you are on the phone with someone and scribble down a note about the call or a potential next action to take. Archive that note in some way. I usually type it up and log it into my productivity app Nozbe. Or take a picture and make it a note in Evernote.
  • File your action support in a project file. This could be a physical folder or a digital folder in Evernote. Don’t leave loose papers lying around. Make it a habit to put everything away.
  • Make it a habit to scan your lists. Don’t let them go stale, give them some attention.

Start your productivity habit today! Don’t put it off another day. I promise it will get easier for you if you follow some of these tips.
